Abstract

In its first part, the paper develops an argumentation based on the thesis that self-referential phenomena can not only be present in music videos in many diffe­rent ways – as in other types of texts – but that music videos, due to their inherent qua­lities, are first of all fundamentally and genuinely close to such phenomena and second­ly contribute to the formation of an ‘artist self’. In its second part, the paper presents a systematization of these self-referential phenomena in music videos.
