The article introduces the topic addressed in this special issue and provides an overview of the five contributions constituting this volume. In general, all contributions aim to shed light on the process of meaning constitution in face-to-face interaction using cognitive frames and mental spaces. Refraining from a dichotomy between interaction and cognition, all contributions in this volume are guided by the idea of conceiving cognitive and interactional meaning construals as complementary processes. Following this view, this volume presents case studies, each showing a specific way to fruitfully combine cognitive and interactional semantics.
