Being better, improving, perfecting oneself – an urge that is stimulated, controlled and satisfied not least by digital technologies such as fitness wristbands. With the quantification of the tangible world as well as the social life, we have to ask for the moral basis of the relevant measurements and what a sociology of a better self may look like. Which meaning is ascribed to metric indicators in relation to power and domination in a (post)modern world? A theoretical and empirical perspective.
