Abstract

The article examines the historical mental functions of the hit song ('Schlager') Für mich soll’s rote Rosen regnen by Hildegarde Neff (aka Hildegard Knef) using the categories 'language', 'music'and 'starimage'. The central semantics, in particular the concept of person, which in the interplay of text and context makes up the meaning of the 'Schlager', is worked out. Finally, it will be explained how these semantics are adapted to the present in the adaptation history of the song, in order to sound out the cultural reference space of the 'Schlager'.
