The terrorist attack of 9/11 not only had devastating effects on the ground, it also had serious consequences worldwide as a powerful media event. This paper is therefore concerned with the impact that the prospect of media coverage of the images of a terrorist attack can have on its planning and implementation and how the media treats the images of an attack. The questions asked are therefore: What strategies might terrorists pursue, aiming on media effectiveness, when planning and staging an attack? And which considerations influence the media when processing and presenting the images of an attack?
