This article aims to point out some of the specificities of an approach that understands discourse relations in comics within a broader conceptualization of multimodal discourse. It lays out the theoretical foundations of these relations in philosophy, semiotics, and logic, and showcases how a small and concise set of these discourse relations can explain processes of reasoning in the interpretation of a comic.
